The School of Law and Government at Theodore Roosevelt High School was initiated as part of the a visionary idea to better serve students in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of East of Los Angeles. The School of Law & Government is one of six small schools on the historic Theodore Roosevelt High School campus.
Our faculty works to increase students’ understanding of law and government issues, themes, and professions. In addition to being exposed to law and government themes and professions students will develop their leadership potential by developing the critical skill of using logic and evidence to build clear and concise arguments.

We are committed to providing all students with A-G coursework so that all students have the opportunity to gain admission to a four year college or university of their choice. The School of Law and Government faculty focuses on and provides a rigorous learning environment that consists of a standards-based curriculum and project based learning with a focus on developing life and career skills among all students.
Through community partnerships with key agencies and organizations the School of Law and Government has developed students’ leadership skills and potential. Students are challenged to develop their public speaking skills and their ability to use logic and evidence when building clear and concise arguments. In addition, to exploring careers in the areas of Law & Government students are challenged to recognize and think critically about traditional systems of power in order to prepare themselves to challenge injustice. As part of their career exploration and preparation students are placed in community internships in the summers before their junior and/or senior years. This experience has served to further expose Law & Government students to related careers and professions.
